Course outline:
1. Orientation and program plan: to review the program, set ground rules, and address initial needs;
2. What do they look/sound like: to identify initial perceptions of what people from another culture look and sound like, compare those perceptions with how you think they perceive you;
3. Why do they, don't they: to identify annoyances, problems, frustrations when working with people from other countries;
4. Cultural differences: to identify some of the key differences between Asian and Western cultures and where the participants see themselves and others on continuum;
5. Cultural lenses: to understand the influence of upbringing and experience has on cross-cultural relationships;
6. What do they expect: to learn some of the behaviors that people from other cultures expect;
7. Assertiveness: to learn four assertiveness models that help improve cross-cultural communication;
8. Listening: to reinforce and learn new listening techniques to help improve communication;
9. Asking questions: to understand the benefits of asking questions and come to feel more comfortable asking questions;
10. Feedback: to learn an effective method for letting others know what you think;
11. Conflict management: to learn effective ways to deal with conflicts;
12. Etiquette: to learn some key etiquette issues from other cultures;
13. Cross cultural guide: to set an action plan for improved teamwork and effectiveness
